Children Rescued in Burundi (C.R.I.B.)
Children Rescued in Burundi (C.R.I.B.) was started by Chrissie Chapman to help orphaned children at the onset of the war in Burundi in October 1993.
C.R.I.B. is the name of the child rescue and care project in Bujumbura, registered in Burundi through African Revival Ministries International. The goal is to meet the needs of endangered children and abandoned orphans by providing love, shelter, support, health care and education,
In 1990, Chrissie Chapman, a qualified nurse and midwife from Great Britain, came to Burundi to establish a maternity clinic and dispensary in a mountainous rural region. After a productive three years, war and genocide broke out. The work in the hill country was brought to an abrupt stop and Chrissie was evacuated to the city centre of Bujumbura. It was here that she rented her first small home and began working among the displaced peoples in the refugee camps. The need was immense.
As war continued in Burundi and neighboring countries, people fled for their lives. Many picking-up alive babies from the arms of dead family members and then taking them to refugee camps. However, very young children, are unable to stand in a feeding line or hold a porridge bowl. As a result, they would be frequently abandoned to fend for themselves. It was during this time that Chrissie felt that her work could be most effective if she focused on helping small babies. Hence, the birth of the first CRIB house in 1993.
Fast forward to 2021, all of the 54 children who were raised in the CRIB house are seeking to start, or continue their post-secondary education in colleges, universities, and trade school throughout

CRIB Story - Orphan education
CRIB (CHILDREN RESCUED IN BURUNDI), BURUNDI
Chrissie Chapman was sent out to Burundi as a missionary over 25 years ago. She began adopting war orphans and helping educate them with the vision that they could become ‘nation changers’ in their country.
During this time, God directed Chrissie to work with orphans and widows. She started a center for abandoned babies and traumatized children and saw the Lord performing remarkable miracles in the lives of people who had lost everything. Chrissie herself adopted three children and raised over fifty others to young adulthood.
Abel and his brother and sister are the only family from the CRIB orphanage who were adopted into a regular family.
